24 Hour Relay

Just got back from this years 24 Hour Relay. The Relay was a little different this year being at Wanderer’s Field instead of SMU’s turf because of the returfing and there were a lot less people there. I guess scheduling the Relay, Dragon Boat Festival, Highland Games and Atlantic Jazz Festival on the same weekend caused some conflicts, who would have thought?

Our team, the Sole Mates raised about the same amount of money as last year and managed to keep someone on the track most of the time (I ended up running about 9 laps of the field + block so I’m pleased with my non-running self) and we managed to hold on to our Turf Wars title but didn’t fare so well in the other events.

At the closing ceremonies we found out the Relay raised about $212,000 for the Abilities Foundation which is about 2/3 of what it raised last year, but not surprising considering the weekend. Our team won a paintball trip thanks to our beer cap collecting skills and I lucked out and won a set of free roundtrip plane tickets courtesy of Westjet after 11 people before me weren’t there to claim the prize.

In all it was a good time and I got a chance to catch up with some old friends and meet some new ones.

Congratulations on the plane tickets… Maybe you can fly out to Victoria or Vancouver and visit sometime.
