Why I won’t be spending any more money on anything Xbox 360 related
So I bought my Xbox 360 when I lived in Canada and happily bought a bunch of Gamer points to get some Xbox Live Arcade Games with my Canadian credit card plus 7 games at $60-70 apiece.
Fast forward a year and I move to the US, there seem to be no problems and everything continues to work fine, I buy more gamer points to buy more Live Arcade games until my Canadian credit cards expire – not a huge problem, I have enough gamer points to last me a little while.
So today a friend of mine buys the video camera for the 360 and wants to video chat with me – but there’s a catch: an Xbox Live Gold Subscription is required for video chat(!) and mine has expired. I plunk through the menus on the 360 and attempt to resubscribe to find out that even though my 360’s locale is set to the US, my Passport account is still linked to my Canadian address – no problem, I’ll just change it to my US address. Only then do I find out that you can’t change the country associated with your Passport account – great.
After about 1.5 hours on the phone with Xbox Live Support (with a very helpful, yet powerless tech) I’m told that you cannot change the country associated with a Passport account, nor can you change which Passport account a 360 Gamertag is associated with. It’s suggested that I create a new Passport account and a new Gamertag so that I can resubscribe and continue enjoying my 360. The only thing wrong with this is that I’d be abandoning my current Gamertag with my friends list and all of the achievements I’ve made with the games I’ve played thus far and all of the download history for all my Live Arcade games (unless I wanted to have two accounts and keep switching between them to do anything. W. T. F.
This is simply unacceptable and Microsoft won’t be getting any more of my money for anything Xbox related, unless someone can figure out how to fix this properly.
All Microsoft has succeeded in doing is alienating me and solidifying my decision to buy a Wii and never look back.

Tell me about it. I did not know I had to get this right when i signed up and left my live account US region and not UK where I am. Guess I’m going to have to think of another cool name.
