Kensington Bluetooth 2.0 USB Adapter Model 33348 Under Vista 64-bit

To get this working with Vista x64, first run cmd.exe as administrator and run the following command inside it: bcdedit -set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS

After this is done grab Broadcom’s drivers for the chip and run it. This updater will download a 33mb install file that it will run automatically which will install a series of drivers and associated Bluetooth stuff. You’ll get 8 or so popups asking about unsigned drivers – hit allow for each of them. At the end of install it will bitch about not allowing one of the unsigned drivers to load – I think this is ok and is DUN related but I don’t use DUN so that feature may or may not work.

Please post your experiences in the comments.

Update 4/28/2008 – People are reporting more success with drivers linked from comments #10 and #11.

  1. What about Vista 32 users? :(

  2. It will work for any Kensington or Widcomm or Broadcom Bluetooth device for any version of Windows

  3. I get installation failed at the end.

  4. this totally doesn’t work under vista x64. you’re on crack.

  5. It works perfectly fine here, was using the computer as a BlueTooth audio device for my cellphone.

  6. It failed for me at the end of the install. Looks like yet another in a long list of devices that have been made useless by upgrading to Vista 64… Time to return to my Linux OS.

  7. I tried this method it did not work.

I wrote Kensington asking how to install this device on vista x64 here is their response-

    Dear Kevin:

Thank you for contacting Kensington Technical Support.

I regret to inform you that the software for the product is not compatible with windows vista 64 bit Operating System.

    Regards,

    Zia Shaikh
    Kensington Technical Support

regards, some guy in bangladesh who doesn’t know shit. It pisses me off so much vista has been out for a year, builds have been available to developers for 2 years now and these lazy assholes still haven’t released drivers. They have 32bit vista drivers and 64bit xp drivers but no 64bit vista drivers. I paid 40 dollars for the bluetooth adaptor and 260 dollars for vista ultimate and now all I have is a bunch of expensive junk that doesn’t work together.

  8. Hello all, Kensington sucks for software support, I have my Kensington Bluetooth Dongle working under Vista 64 and recognizing my Motorola stereo headset by using the following drivers downloaded from MSI http://download1.msi.com.tw/files/downloads/dvr_exe/Vista32(64)_BTW6.0.1.3400.zip Wasn’t difficult at all once I gave up on a Kensington solution

  9. All,

I’ve been struggling with the Kensington Bluetooth support issue and Kensington’s brain-dead response (they are too lazy to write a Vista 64 bit driver) as well. I tried the Toshiba 5 driver, which is for XP and it mysteriously worked for a couple of months, then froze my HP dv9500 AMD machine. I suspect a Windows update did it in.

I am happy to say that the MSI site download URL in post 10 worked fine with the Kensington Bluetooth USB 2.0 adaptor, model 33348, though the hyperlink in post number 10 is messed up. Go to
    http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=driver&maincat_no=131&prod_no=101,
scroll down to select the Windows Vista 32/64 bit download (46 MB), version 6.0.1.3400, dated 2007-03-19, download it, unzip it, uninstall any other driver, reboot, install the new download and it should work for you. Since installation, I’ve rebooted, synched up over Bluetooth between Outlook and a Nokia 6086 phone, unplugged the Bluetooth device, etc, and all is well. The sync of several hundred Outlook items went pretty quickly – maybe 2 minutes. So, while I have some issues with Vista Ultimate 64 bit and like Linux better for lots of reasons, Kensington Bluetooth support no longer seems to be one of them. Please try it for yourself and post to other sites to let everyone know.

Good luck to the other Vista 64 bit pioneers. It ain’t right but it is reality….

  10. Thanks Mike! Works like a charm.

  11. Thanks soooo much guys 10 worked like a charm!

  12. I hate Windows Vista. I hate the folks at Palm for not supporting it, rendering my Tungsten E2 useless…and I hate these peckers at Kensington. There…that feels better.

After buying my laptop which came loaded with Vista Ultimate (64 bit version) I found I was unable to use my Tungsten E2 anymore…Palm is not compatible with the 64 bit version. So, I figured I’d be able to sync using bluetooth. I can’t install this little piece of crap Kensington on the 64 bit version either.

Should have followed my instincts and bought an Apple.

    Fuckers

  13. Hello – the charmed solutions didn’t work for me. I have Windows Vista Home Premium on an Acer and I’m not sure how to tell if it’s 64-bit or 32-bit.

I’m wondering if this download would theoretically work:

    http://www.broadcom.com/products/Bluetooth/Bluetooth-RF-Silicon-and-Software-Solutions/BCM1000-VPP

Also where do you check to uninstall other bluetooth drivers?

  14. Hello John,
I tryed 2 solutions, first that you gave on the website, and second the one from “snooch”. Didn’t work.

My Vista is 64bit, I had an micro adapter from kensington, but i broked it yesterday…
please let me knwo if you guys have another solution..
    Gustavo

  15. Mike, I gotta say thanks! Your solution worked perfectly for me, and my Kensington Bluetooth USB 2.0 adaptor model 33348 is now happily running on my Vista 64. :-)

  16. Thank you Mike… after searching the net for 2 hrs. i found ur post
it worked!! THANK YOU A LOT

  17. Been trying to get this Kensington Bluetooth dongle to work on Vista 64 … now I can finally sync my Palm T/X! Thanks for the solution!

  18. Mike, thank you so much.

After a month of trying to figure out how I could sync my Palm to my new Vista computer (the USB cable is incompatable, of course) I played around with the Kensington Dongle for Bluetooth and got nowhere. Thank goodness for your post. Of course, after I followed your advice and got the Bluetooth to work, I had to download new Palm OS software to work with it. Palm does not support their products with Vista and has stated they have no intention to do so. What a mess. Give up on Palm AND Kensington if you are using Vista. Or… give up on Vista and everything will work just fine!

At least I have it working… for now… Thanks again…

  19. One thing that Mike does not mention, I assume that he meant it when posting the info on how to fix this issue, but nonetheless for us slower types out there that are still having issues with this, the fix is simple. Mike is correct. You may not be installing properly. You have to know what system you are running with vista. If you are running 32 or 64 it doesn’t matter from my experience dealing with these components. When you unzip the file you must actually install the setup from the correct folder be it 32 or 64. I had no issues from there on.

    Thanks Mike

  20. Thanks to this thread, I now have the Kensington Bluetooth adapter running on 64-bit Windows Vista and can sync with a Tungsten E2. I guess that is the price we pay for living on the bleeding edge of technology? Thanks again, for everyone’s help here.

  21. Thanks – Vista and bluetooth are working for me!!

  22. [...] Bluesoleil on top of them. I hope the drivers will solve your problems as well as they did mine. http://www.kelley.ca/wordpress/2007/…-vista-64-bit/ "del" wrote: > > Has anyone had any luck with Bluesoleil on Vista Home Premium [...]

  23. Mike, thanks for solution to my problem with kensington 2.0 Adapter vista 64 bit drivers.
    Worked like a champ!!!!!!

  24. Mike, I left my Rocketfish Micro EDR2.1 dongle software cd at home. THANKS for the download, now i can call my wife from iraq!

  25. Have not bought the Kensington yet, but am considering it after talking with Palm. Decided to investigate the driver issue and found this thread. Tried to use the link from Mike and there is nothing at the MSI website anymore that I can find?? Searched the website itself for vista 32/64bit driver and came up with nothing.

    Is there any new help?

  26. Take this Version of Widcomm SW (Rev. 6.0.1.5200). Works wonderful with vista 64bit.
